Hwy 22 resurfacing project from Wells to Iowa border begins Aug. 17 (Aug. 12, 2026)

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is expected to begin a resurfacing project on Hwy 22 from Wells to the Iowa border on Aug. 17, weather permitting.

The pavement preservation project will include a micro mill and overlay to extend the life of the highway. Construction will be completed under traffic, and no detour will be required. A flagging operation with a pilot car will be in place, and motorists should allow for extra travel time. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone and be attentive for workers and heavy equipment.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-October. Construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change.

Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface and enhanced safety for motorists. Ulland Brothers, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $3,282,660.72
